I saw Jerome today for the first time in years and years. His sculpture "Dove Tree" on NIH's campus needed some tender loving care so he'll be restoring it before we move it to it's new location

Jerome B. Meadows is a full time studio artist working and residing in an historic Ice House in Savannah, Georgia. Originally from New York City, he’s been living in Savannah since 1997. A graduate with a BFA degree from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA degree from the University of Maryland, Mr. Meadows has been self-employed as a visual artist and public space designer since 1992. His focus in the arts has been in the design and fabrication of large scale public art projects, including site layout, landscape issues, along with the conceptualization and fabrication of sculptural components all fully integrated into a cohesive whole. These projects are located throughout the United States. web site here

well, I've been to three Virginia hospitals in two days and took this yesterday traveling from a small installation in Culpeper back to Charlottesville. It was such a lovely evening, I decided to pull off 29 and just explore the countryside. Today we do the inventory of Martha Jefferson before patients move in on Sunday.

This beautiful sculpture created by Sarah Bagwell Smith was donated to MJH by thefamily. Sarah Smith was a founding member of McGuffey art center (their gallery was recently named after her) Her husband Dr. Harry LeCato Smith Jr was a physician at MJH. Many thanks to that multi-talented Vee Osvalds for helping us with the installation. He is just the best!

While I have had no time to go to galleries, studio visits or museums while in DC, it is all I do in Charlottesville. I visit for about at week every month to work on the Martha Jefferson Hospital project. What a joy! We are building an amazing collection by local artists.

Jessie Coles paints how I would like to paint. Babka and lemons pictured above is everyone's favorite painting. We are commissioning an artist, Scott Supraner of Hawksbill Studio to create a ceramic sculpture that references Jessie's painting. They will hang side by side in the hospital. I can't wait. The next few posts are studio visits we've had over the last month or two in Charlottesville.

I love, love, love Rob Browning. His great uncle was one of the founders of Martha Jefferson Hospital, and he is just an extraordinary painter. I own several small works, one was a lovely gift from Rob. Below are a charming series of houses that are in Martha Jefferson's permanent collection. Our art committee members have become great collectors of original local art as well!
Rob and the next two artists, John Hughes and Tom Tartaglino are all represented by Nichols Gallery in Barboursville. Curator, Beth Nichols has a great eye and has been a wonderful resource for us, she and her artist/husband Fred Nichols have also generously donated work to the MJH collection.
