sorry no post from c'ville yesterday. long day. I'm on the top floor on the far west side of the omni and this linksys network keeps knocking me off the omni wireless and then dropping me. I had to get a recommendation finished for Darien by last night and had a tough time getting the email to go through. more installation today, another trip to mcguffy and then home again.

this trip has been the perfect blend of work and relaxation, its a gift to go home more organized and well rested.

a little rainy and windy this am, no sunrise so I went back to bed instead of taking a walk. Poured a cup of coffee and took it to the beach, tide coming in, beautiful dramatic sky and waves. Hard to capture the incandescent grey green light on the water, what a lovely last morning.

had a great swim this afternoon, I was just mad I forgot my underwater camera. The water is so very clear and beautiful.

I've got a pretty sweet routine, get up a little after 6am walk on the beach until a little after 7 make a pot of coffee, glass of juice, then go for a swim. Yesterday I had a SAH conference call @ 10:30 - thankfully I was answering emails when the reminder popped up or I'm pretty sure I would have completely forgotten. Afterwards a few followup calls. In the afternoon I went down and drifted on an raft while reading my book, until it started raining, took a long bath and last night I ordered room service, flipped between movies and got a great deal of work done organizing the artists I found at artomatic and planning the shows for 2008.

beautiful walk on the beach this am, no one was out, very calm surf. The water is perfect temp so I'm going down for a swim as soon as I finish my coffee.

lots to blog about but I think it will have to wait until I'm in Florida on Wednesday. Had a lovely mother's day, wonderful brunch @gretchen's. On Saturday I went on the capitol hill house tour w/Joyce and took hundreds of photos - a perfect night, it started to rain just as I got in the car. Today references for our new ED, meeting with Herman Miller.

post

In the midst of tragedy, the local arts community comes together. Yesterday, we told you about the mysterious ransom note we received here demanding $10,000 in Monopoly money for the glass sculpture by D.C. artist Tim Tate that went missing from the Artomatic show. Now, a noble offer: The show's organizers pledge that "for every REAL dollar donated at Artomatic," they will "match with Monopoly money."
Oh, jeez. Are we totally getting played? The Artomatic folks insist they're not behind the heist.

it is so so nice having the kids at home. there was a great write up in the post about virginia wineries and mentioned my favorite - Barboursville. They make a great Viognier. Read about it here. If you go be sure to stop by Nichols Gallery, it is lovely. Web site here

$10,000 Ransom! Quick, Call Rich Uncle Pennybags!
By Amy Argetsinger and Roxanne Roberts

A mysterious parcel was delivered to The Reliable Source yesterday, purporting to be a ransom demand for the $1,500 sculpture by local glass artist Tim Tate that went missing from the Artomatic show.
As we reported two weeks ago, the rocket-ship-looking doodad -- dubbed "The Rapture," as it happens -- vanished from its installation at the Crystal City art show around the time of the raucous opening-night party April 13. That's believed to be the last time anyone saw a trace of it . . . until yesterday.
A mysterious parcel was delivered to The Reliable Source yesterday, purporting to be a ransom demand for the $1,500 sculpture by local glass artist Tim Tate that went missing from the Artomatic show.
The package, shipped by overnight mail and addressed to us, bore the cryptic name "The Collector," with a nonexistent return address at "2300 Constitution Avenue NW." We gingerly opened it under a ventilation hood, anticipating . . . well, something awful. Instead, we found:
A photo of what appears to be Tate's rocket ship, posed in front of the front page of Tuesday's Post, with a toy gun aimed at it.
A note demanding that Tate place "$10,000 monopoly (unmarked) in a paper bag and drop it in the lap of the Albert Einstein statue in Potomac Park" next week.
A piece of flame-colored glass that appears to be the top of Tate's sculpture.
Thus far The Post has decided not to involve the police. We called Tate, who asked us to read the note a second time before his coughing fit of laughter subsided. Is this a publicity stunt? "I am not involved in any of this," he said.
Can he amass that amount of Monopoly money by next week? "I bet I could. I'll raid my nephews' and nieces' board games." And will he accede to the kidnapper's demands?
"Are you kidding? I wouldn't miss this for the world. I'm getting my rocket back, man."
